DIY Very Hungry Caterpillar Felt Book + Free Printable

I promised you a printable from Emmett's party, so here it is! If you're looking to make your own Very Hungry Caterpillar felt book, this printable is for you. I think this would make a perfect gift for a young child or a teacher. You could even enlarge all the pieces and use it in the classroom with a felt board. You can use any felt, but I like to use wool felt blends because the quality of the felt is higher and it comes in a wide variety of beautiful colors. Materials:

different colored felt

Very Hungry Caterpillar printout

scissors

pins

glue

Go ahead and cut out each object, leaving a generous amount of space around the outline. Next, pin it to the appropriate colored felt.

After that, simply cut out the felt pieces along the lines and then remove the pins and discard the paper. At this point, several of the pieces will already be done! A few of the more complicated pieces may need to be glued together, either with white glue, fabric glue, or a few dots of hot glue.

For the actual felt book, I bought some grey felt by the yard at the fabric store, and then cut them down to size. I sewed them down the middle to hold the pieces together, and that was it!

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, I thought I'd provide you with some printable love quotes to get you in the mood. I originally wanted to create two or three to use as wall decorations for our bedroom, but once I got started, I couldn't stop!

I've provided a few different size options, so you can download the poster size (8.5"x11") to hang up in a room, the card size (3.5"x5") to use as greeting cards, or the mini card size (2"x3") to stick in a lunch box or on a gift. Just download the pdfs, print them out, and trim along the crop marks.

DIY Superbowl XLVI Party + Printables

I'm not really a football fan, nor do I know much about the sport at all. But I'll take any opportunity to throw a party. :) So, when my husband suggested having a small Super Bowl party for his study group buddies, I said, "Sure, why not?"

I started researching the teams to find out the colors and what their logos were, and I must say I was very disappointed when I found out that both teams have the same exact team colors. That doesn't make for a very exciting party, now does it? :P

Well, I worked with what I had, and it actually looks more like a coordinated, well-matched party than a SuperBowl rivalry. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing. Anyway, feel free to download and use for your own parties! Use both teams' printables or just cut out the one team you're rooting for if you're feeling particularly competitive. :)

DIY Tabbed Dividers + Free Printable

I recently started going back to school. I'm no stranger to the school environment, but it's somewhat refreshing to be able to enter the classroom as a student rather than teacher. I'm taking some really interesting classes this semester, and I'm hoping to pick up a few new skills and learn a bit more about typography and digital illustration.

Anyhow, I was in need of some tabbed dividers for my school notebook and thought that I would go ahead and create a set for myself. I've always really disliked those yellow divider pages with the clear colored plastic holders, but there never seems to be much variety.

Here's a DIY set of tabbed dividers for you, in case you're like me. :) I've included most of the "normal" school subjects and also a few blank ones for you to fill in on your own. Happy studying!

Supplies:
Cardstock
Full-sized sheets of label paper (or regular paper + gluestick)
Single hole punch
Scissors
DIY Tabbed Divider Template

Step 1: Print out DIY Tabbed Dividers Template

Step 2: Cut out tab.

Step 3: Punch corners with a single hole punch.

Step 4: Fold in half along the printed line.

Step 5: Remove label paper (or apply glue)

Step 6: Lay tab down (stick side up) and place cardstock about 1/4 of the way on top of the tab.

Step 7: Fold tab over along pre-folded line. Press firmly.

DIY Balloon Launch Postcard + Free Printable

A few weeks back, we celebrated the Week of the Young Child, a week dedicated to celebrating the young child and focusing attention on early childhood education. We celebrated with a different activity each day, and on one of the days, we did a postcard balloon launch!

We tied postcards to the ends of dozens of helium-filled balloons and asked the recipients to fill out where they found the balloon and send the self-addressed, stamped postcards back to us. As we slowly receive the postcards back, we hope to create a giant map to mark where all of our balloons flew.

If you'd like to launch your own balloon postcard, I've created a template of our postcard for you. Simply cut out along the solid lines, attach a stamp, fill in your address, and attach to a helium balloon.*

I used heavyweight scrapbook paper that was solid one one side and patterned on the other. You could easily design your own image to print on the back as well. No matter the message or pattern, the balloon and postcard are sure to put a smile on the recipient's face!

*Be sure to use biodegradable balloons, in case they end up blowing into the ocean or getting lost.

DIY Mini Party Hats + Free Printable

If you're wondering how to make teeny tiny party hats for your own birthday box, here's a quick tutorial for you. It's very similar to the DIY Party Hat tutorial (in fact, I just scaled down the template), but there are just a few tips and tricks that I added to make it easier.

Let's get started!

Supplies: glue gun, tiny pearl beads (or other small round objects), colored paper scraps, pencil, double-sided tape, mini party hat template

Step 1: Download the mini party hat template here.

Step 2: You can print out the template directly onto your colored paper or if you are using scraps, print out on a piece of cardstock first, then cut out to create a pattern to trace onto scraps.

Step 3: Cut out all your party hat pieces.

Step 4: Holding the vertex of the party hat with one hand, gently roll the ends with your other hand. You want it to roll up in cone-ish shape.

Step 5: Put double-sided tape along one edge of the inner side of the cone.

Step 6: Roll up your hat and press firmly to secure tape.

Step 7: Carefully dab your cone tip into the end of your glue gun and immediately affix a small bead or pearl to the top.

Step 8: Place atop your favorite stuffed friend, decorate cupcakes, or sprinkle on a loved one's desk. :)
